Angels and Dodgers Wild Night

Yesterday in the Angels Dodgers game the Angels pitched a no hitter....AND LOST! Jered Weaver was pitching and he made 1 costly error. Matt Kemp reached first on the error, then he stole 2nd and reached 3rd on an error by Mike Napoli. Next up was Blake Dewitt who hit a sacrafice fly.

The Angels however did not score and therefore had a no hit loss...the first no hit loss since the redsox in the 90's.

Mets and Yankees Play Two

In a day night, house that ruth built and house that constructors built doubleheader, the yankees and mets split.

In the first game the mets won 15-6 as Carlos Delgado had 2 Home Runs and 9 RbI's.

In the second game Sydney Ponson pitched 6.0 IP 5 hits 4k's of shutout baseball.

Chacon Suspended Indefinetly

Shawn Chacon was suspended indefinetly for insubordination. He grabbed GM Ed Wade by the neck and threw him down to the floor.

Texiera Goes for the THREEPEAT

Mark Texiera went yard 3 times yesterday in the Braves win over the Mariners. He is now up to 13 Home Runs on the year.

ALSO: Tonight in an odd occurence Johan Santana gave up a home run to....FELIX HERNANDEZ! Here is the kicker though...IT WAS A GRAND SLAM! This reminds me of Jose Lima last year!

Gibbons, Schilling Recieve Bad News

John Gibbons and Curt Schilling are both not having the best days of their lives.

Gibbons was fired as Blue Jays manager today after an awful start to the season. Cito Gaston will take over the job.

Curt Schilling announced that he needs surgery and will be out for the season and POSSIBLY his career will end.

John McClaren Fired

Today John McClaren was fired after less then a year as the Mariners manager. The Mariners are 25-47 this season and they also recently fired General Manager Bill Bavasi

Yankees On A Roll

The New York Yankees are now on a 5 Game Winning Streak. They are currently 6 games behind the RedSox for first in the AL East. In the wild card race they are 3.5 Games behind the Rays.

So how did they get to this point? Joe Girardi said going into the interleague stretch that he wanted this to be their breakout time. Well, I guess the team answered his call as they have been playing their best baseball all year! They have won their last two games a combined 21-0 and dont seem like they are about to stop!

Every year it seems they get off to a terrible start, everyone doubts them, and then they finish by making the playoffs.

I predict that will happen again.

Mets make flurry of firings

In a much neccessary move the Mets FINALLY fired Willie Randolph. They also axed Pitching Coach Rick Peterson and 1b coach Tom Nieto.

Taking over Manager will be bench coach Jerry Manuel. AAA pitching coach will take over the same job.

The one problem with these moves was the timing. 3:00 Eastern time AM they fired Randolph. This is just a few hours after an impressive win. Also, they made Willie Randolph go on the west coast trip with the team.

Chien Ming Wang Injury Update

Chien Ming Wang will be out for 6 weeks. Or so we think. Buster Olney reports that the yankees would be HAPPY to see Wang on the mound by September 1st. Any earlier would even surprise them!

With this injury the yankees will for now probably look to the minors but in the future they will probably go to trading/free agency.

Happy Fathers Day!!!

I would like to start off this post by wishing everyone a happy fathers day!

Next of all, reports have said that Ken Griffey Jr. WOULD waive his no-trade clause if he was to be traded to the Rays. Last year he was reported to possibly be going to the Cubs.

INSTANT REPLAY IN AUGUST?

BREAKING NEWS: MLB is working on having instant replay in MLB games as soon as August 1st. They are still working out the details but they should have LIMITED Instant Replay by that date.

Other news: Joba Chamberlain got his first ROAD start of his career yesterday. He pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts. He got a No Decision in a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros.

What is going on with the Mets????

The New York Mets. Going into the year that was a sentence many teams did NOT want to hear when they found out who they were playing. Now its changed though.

Last year the mets had one of the worst collapses in history of the MLB as they failed to reach the playoffs. This year they are having new problems.

So why are the Mets struggling?

Here is why:

1. Bullpen- Billy Wagner has blown 3 saves in his last 3 appearences. He is supposed to be a possible hall of fame closer. Aaron Heilman(who they could have traded a few years ago in a combo deal with Lastings Milledge to get MANNY RAMIREZ) is the Kyle Farnsworth of the mets. They have blown many leads this year and it seems like they cant hold a lead.

2. Team Chemistry- Willie Randolph is not doing a good job of holding this team together. Billy Wagner has basically called out EVERY person on the team(whats next...calling out the hot dog vendors and blaming THEM for losing a game) meanwhile he has blown three saves in a row! The spanish and american players are arguing and the whole team is a mess.

3. Media- Willie Randolph's job being in jeporady is a daily topic as we have heard a different thing daily. The media is often posting untrue or controversial articles. Overall this hurts the team chemistry.

Mets are currently at a 31-34 record and have seemed to struggle of late.

MY FIXING METHOD: First fire Willy Randolph to get a fresh start. Second demote Aaron Heilman to make him appear RARELY in games. Third id say they should try to trade for a solid Relief Pitcher...if they cant then they should find one in their system.

Mr. 600

Ken Griffey Jr. has done it! 600 Home Runs off steroids! Only a few have done it before! On a pitch from Mark Hendrickson he drilled over the right field fence he became a member of the 600 HR club.

SIDE NOTE: Dusty Baker has managed THREE 600HR hitters(Griffey,Bonds,Sosa)

Padres Set a Record

The San Diego Padres matched a record with 4 consecuitive wins 2-1. 1 vs. the Cubs and 3 vs. the Mets. They swept the Mets in the series. So with that they managed to tie the record for most consecuitive wins 2-1.

The Mets on the other hand have been struggling lately as they were swept in a four game series vs. the Padres. Wagner got the loss in yesterday's 8-6.

Suspensions from Redsox Rays Brawl

The Redsox and Rays brawled in their Wednsday and Thursday matchups. The following suspensions were the results of it:

All eight players were fined an undisclosed amount.

Joba Chamberlain and Pedro Martinez UPDATE

Yesterday Joba Chamberlain and Pedro Martinez made their first starts in a long time.

For Joba it was his first start since his stint in the minors last year. Joba pitched 2.1 Innings gave up 1 hit and 2 runs(1 earned). So you cant say it was very successful(62 pitches in 2.1 innings) but you cant say this wasnt expected. My opinion is that the yankees should have sent him down to get ready to throw up to 90-100 pitches, and called him back up when ready.

As for Martinez he pitched for the first time since the Mets second game of the season. He pitched 6 innings giving up 7 hits and 3 runs. Pedro is expected to be limited to 6 or 7 innings a start.

MILESTONE UPDATE

Yesterday I was proven wrong by one player and proven to have a less likely chance of being right by the other.

Manny Ramirez hit his 500th Home Run yesterday in a win over the Orioles.

Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 599th Home Run in a win over the Braves.

Milestone Predictions

MLB has many milestones that are reachable. Two of the hardest ones though are about to be reached. Ken Griffey Jr. currently has 598 career home runs. Manny Ramirez has 499. So whn will these milestones be reached? Here are my predictions:

Japanese Matchup For the Ages

On Tuesday Hideki Kuroda faced off against Kosuke Fukudome in a battle of former rivals. The Dodgers were playing the Cubs and Kuroda was facing Fukudome for the first time in both of their MLB careers. Fukudome went 1-2. He had 133 at bats against Kuroda in Japan.

Jay Bruce, Joey Votto, Edison Volquez make future look bright for the reds

The Cinncinnati Reds have not been a very good team over the last few years. They have finsished mostly in 4th or 5th and if lucky they can hope for 4th this year. The future looks bright though for this struggling team as the foundation as set with emerging prospects Jay Bruce, Joey Votto, and Edison Volquez. Volquez is doing the best this year but we havent seen from Bruce yet in the majors. He is expected to be the best of the three. So with the emerging players we should see the reds rise to at least 3rd place in their respective division within the next few years.

Clayton Kershaw Results

Clayton Kershaw yesterday pitched 6 innings, gave up 2 runs and struckout 7 in a win over the cardinals.

Top Prospect Clayton Kershaw will start today as the Dodgers designate Esteban Loaiza for assignment. This could help the struggling dodgers as they need a boost from ANYONE OR ANYTHING!

Yankees Get Some Fire Out of Girardi

Yesterday the New York Yankees won over the Balitmore Orioles 2-1. Robinson Cano won it with a walk-off RBI single, first walk off hit of the season for the struggling yankees. Two batters before Cano though Joe Girardi got tossed for arguing a called strike three. Girardi went crazy with anger and even threw his hat and kicked it. This is the exact kind of anger and fire that the yankees needed. Lost in the game though was Ian Kennedy as he pitched six innings, 4 hits, 1 run.

Footnote: Also lost in yesterdays games is that Ken Griffey Jr Hit his 598th career Home Run in an 8-2 loss to the padres.

BREAKING NEWS: According to ESPN's Jason Stark the mlb will test instant replay in the Arizona Fall League. THis brings us one step closer to it possibly being incorporated into the mlb.

Instant Replay in Baseball?

Instant Replay is being used in many sports. Basketball and football both use it, but the question is: SHOULD BASEBALL INCORPORATE INSTANT REPLAY?

My Take: I believe that instant replay should be used in baseball so that all the fans in the world that blame the umps(who try their hardest to do their best and STILL get NO credit) have no excuse anymore for their team losing. I believe teams should have a limit of one or two challenges per game so that games dont go too slow.

Are The Cubs for REAL?

The Chicago Cubs: World Series Champions.....havent heard that in what...100 years? Who knows if that could change this year though as they are off to a fast start. Soriano is picking his play up, the pitching is stellar, and the bullpen is coming through. So.....DO THEY TOP MY POWER RANKINGS?

Here are my top 15:

1. Cubs(25-16)- Read Above

2. Diamondbacks- Brandon Webb, Conor Jackson, EVERYONE is coming through!

3. Cleveland Indians(22-19)- Dont always go by the record. The pitching is off to a GREAT start. If Lee can keep it up....WATCH OUT!

4. Boston RedSox(24-19) Great Start for the defending champs! Matsusaka is a key performer in the present AND the future.

5. Tampa Bay Rays(24-17)- Scott Kazmir, James Shields. Enough Said.

6. Oakland Athletics(23-19)- It wont last...but they should enjoy it while they can!

7. Houston Astros(24-18) Two Words- LANCE BERKMAN!

8. Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim(24-19) Good but not great start. Lucky that the Mariners have had early struggles. Joe Saunders is surprising many.

9. Philadelphia Phillies(23-19)- Dangerous Team if Howard can step it up a notch.

10. Florida Marlins(23-17)- Cant be too good if Mark Hendrickson is your opening day starter! Good start though in an interesting NL East Division.

Teams that will continue to fall and some that will get better!

Here are lists of teams that will fall, or rise

FALL(as they are now):
Tigers...pitching remains terrible and now hitting is even slow.

Brewers....Piching will continue to struggle.

RISE(as they are now)
Tampa Bay Rays...rotation is one of best in bigs, id predict third place finish.

Chicago Cubs....coming off a recent sweep of Arizona I expect them to go far this year.

FALL(even though so far they are good!)

Atlanta Braves....Chipper is great but the rest of the lineup is no names or prospects. Franceour needs to step it up. Smoltz and Glavine are too old to be aces.

Florida Marlins....Tough team to beat because of energy but overall bad pitching will lead them to a 4th place finish.

RISE(even though they are off to a rough start)

New York Mets... easy division, alot of aces, great hitting. If Beltran and Reyes step it up so will the rest of the team!

New York Yankees....as much as I am not trying to be biased, you gotta admit every year they get off to this same start yet finish in 1st or 2nd. I predict the wild card and a first round loss this year(again)

RESULTS: Volquez vs. Lee

Today Edison Volquez outshined Cliff Lee in a win for the Reds. Cliff Lee got his first loss of the season as the Reds defeated the Indians 6-4. Cliff Lee nearly doubled his ERA as it rose to 1.37. Edison Volquez has an ERA of 1.33. Volquez is now 7-1 and Lee is 6-1.

Today for the third time in MLB history the ERA leaders from the NL and AL face off. This will happen at the Great American Ballpark in Cininnati. Cliff Lee will face off against Edison Volquez in a battle of young stars emerging.

Intruiging Interleague Series

ALOT of great and interesting action in interleague games this weekend already! Jason Werth led off the weekend with a 3 home run performance! Then later on Josh Hamilton went 5-5 with 2 HR! Finally, to end the night Gary Bennett on a strikout where he needed to throw the ball routinely to first to get the putout....he threw it in to DEEP RF and the hitter ended up at 3rd!

CUBS! In a surprising move today the Chicago Cubs, a team with an abundance of Outfielders, signed Jim Edmonds.

Busy Day Off the Diamond

Today was a big day in the mlb as the following moves happened:

The Pirates acquired Jason Michaels from the Indians for a player to be named later.
Michaels will be on he 25man roster today.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed OF Brad Wilkerson and have traded for OF Kevin Mench.
Wilkerson was cut by the Mariners recently and Mench was traded from the Rangers for a player to be named later.

Derrick Turnbow accepted his assignment to AAA today as the Brewers' trade attempts fell through with the four teams interested.

BREAKING NEWS: The Padres have released Jim Edmonds. With the extra spot on the roster they called up Jody Gerut. I Belive that he will either retire or play for a NEEDY team for a SMALL amount of money.


Small Note: NY Post reports David Wells is interested in a 3rd stint with the yankees. Hank Steinbrenner is intruiged by this idea but he would like to see how the prospects turn out before even considering a signing of any kind.

Cliff Lee: Is he really THIS good?

Cliff Lee had another outstanding start last night as his Indians beat the yankees 3-0. As he starts off the season 6-0 with an 0.81 ERA we all have to ask ourselves...Is he really this good?

My personal opinion is that when a pitcher comes back from an injury plagued season and pitches this well the reason has to be that the injury was affecting him before he knew about it. But in this case that is not my opinion.

Lee is an interesting case who I think will gradually get worse as the season progresses. BUT i do believe he will finish as an all-star...not a starter though...and with these projected stats

For the indians that I believe will win the AL central.

In the future he might not be as good as he was this year but my opinion suggests: He is a very talented pitcher who is being overhyped. This doesnt mean i am right....but it could be!

Ian Kennedy UPDATE

In Kennedy's first start in AAA Scranton Wilkes/Barres he pitched a no hitter through 6 IP+ and finished with 7 one hit scorless innings in a win. Darrell Rasner has filled Hughes' spot and Kei Igawa is expected to fill Kennedy's spot so it shouldnt be too long until one of the two(probably Igawa) is demoted to make room for him. This would require for him to have similar starts as his last one in AAA.

Surprising Starts and Not So Surprising Starts in MLB

Surprising: Seattle Mariners....They have a solid 1-2-3 pitching combo in Bedard, Felix, and Silva, and their hitting is solid with Beltre, and Ibanez, but they seem to be missing a good bullpen this year. At the beggining of the year we all though Putz would do a great job. Not true so far.

Not Surprising: Arizona Diamondbacks....Young Talent swinging the bats and young and veteran pitching taking over. This team could be headed to the show if they keep up their hot start.

WHAT TO WATCH 4 TONIGHT...Max Schrerzer who pitched 4.1 IP scorless gets the start...in the relief appearence where he gave up the no runs....NO HITS!

Kennedy to Minors?

Ian Kennedy was demoted to AAA today as the yankees called up Darrell Rasner. Kennedy had a pitiful start to the season as he went 0-2 with an 8.37 ERA. I believe though that this was a bad move by Yankees Skipper Joe Girardi. The Yankees young pitcher already was in a fragile position and by sending him down without him liking it, it was making his confidence even worse! A bad decision but we will see how it turns out.
